2026 Colombia Earthquake Response

Disaster Response • Colombia • Dirigé par la communauté

On Monday, August 10, 2026, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, the strongest earthquake recorded in the country in over a century. The quake was centered in the Chocó department and was felt across much of the country, as well as in parts of neighboring Ecuador and Panama, causing widespread destruction in Cali, Pereira, Manizales, Quibdó, and other cities.

How you can support the response!

The activation has a wiki page where we document our work for the mapping community, including technical details on how to get involved and support the response. This project page is aimed at a more institutional audience: partners and the general public, offering a higher-level view of our work. For further details, please refer to the wiki.

Crowsourced Mapping using ChatMap

Through the HOT Tasking Manager, volunteer mappers and validators from all around the world will be improving the pre-earthquake baseline for buildings.

Field Mapping using ChatMap

The OpenStreetMap Colombia Community is driving and coordinating this on-the-ground mapping effort, with support from UN Mappers and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, to locate damaged or destroyed buildings in the area affected by the earthquake in Colombia.

Damaged buildings mapped using ChatMap. Explore the map and click on the points to view geolocated photos and videos shared by the community on the ground.

Other Community Iniciatives

We are aware that people on the affected areas are also involved in launching many other mapping initiatives. While aren't collaborating directly with them, we want to share them here in case they are useful for more people:

Are you a humanitarian responder on the ground with a specific data need?
